2015 Results are announced

Another Blooming Wonderful Year For The North East

The results of the 2015 Northumbria in Bloom competition were announced today at a prestigious Awards Ceremony held for the first time in Berwick upon Tweed.  The prizes were awarded by Sir Alan Beith, recently retired MP for Berwick.  61 villages, towns and cities entered the competition this year, and the trophies were strongly contested.

Overall Champion 2015 is Moorsholm village in Cleveland, which was awarded the Percy Boydell Trophy.  Moorsholm swept the board nationally in Britain in Bloom 2014, winning best in category and many discretionary awards.  This year the village has repeated its outstanding successes with Northumbria in Bloom.

Full results can be found here.

Chairman of Northumbria in Bloom, Eileen Burn, said “It has been very encouraging to maintain the volume of entries this year and we hope to attract more in 2016.  It is great to be able to share advice and give encouragement throughout the region as more and more people are realising the benefits of communities working together to create cheering year-round displays.

“As well as the awards for the villages, towns, cities and urban communities, there are 17 special awards to recognise efforts in all sorts of different classes.  This year we have re-introduced the Residential Community and the Allotment trophies, which are very popular, and there is a lot of fierce competition. I think the Bloom competition provides something to appeal to all groups and all ages.  In 2016 we shall be bringing back our schools’ campaign “Growing Together” so once again young gardeners will be receiving recognition”.

Special awards full results can be found here.

On 16 October the national Britain in Bloom Awards Ceremony will be held at Rainton Meadows Arena in Houghton le Spring.  Northumbria in Bloom will be represented by Washington Village, Corbridge and Durham.

On 21 October the RHS It’s Your Neighbourhood awards ceremony for volunteer community groups and individuals in the north east will be held at the Federation Brewery, Gateshead.  There are 162 entries this year.
